  • About the Edition

From memory, old journals, manuscripts, and diaries, he has begotten Wooing Is Woe. No maestro ever had a better grasp of the subject. No misognynist, he affirms only things for which he can vouch. In anecdote after anecdote in a profusion that beggars description he views female duplicity, laying bare the naked truth with irrefutable documentation. Would you believe it, in the romance that culminated in his own forty-odd years of married life, he has to this day no recollection of ever proposing! And his recounting of the events of the wedding night reveals some incredible absurdities...

    Edition Notes

The late Farris Morton was my uncle--my mother"s elder brother. Born in 1900, he grew up in the rough and rowdy mining camp of Eureka, Utah, where he served as yearbook editor. He went on to become a printer"s devil on a country weekly newspaper and a reporter in Salt Lake City. Eventually he and his wife Patty settled in Salem, Oregon, where Farris worked as an office man, stenographer and accountant. They had a daughter and a son--my cousins Pattie and Davie--with whom I would dearly love to reconnect! - Richard Menzies
